Quakertown teachers join campaign to help kids in need.
Quakertown Community Education Association (QCEA), comprised of 360 dedicated teachers, has joined Pride of Quakertown as a sponsor in the campaign to help children in need participate in after-school enrichment programs.
"QCEA believes it is extremely important to not only support students within the walls of our classrooms and school, but outside as well,” said QCEA President Ryan Wieand. “It was important for us to support an organization such as Pride of Quakertown, because its reach is extensive, helping boys and girls in a variety of activities."
“We are extremely excited that QCEA has honored us with their support,” said Jen Reich, Co-founder of POQ. “Knowing that we have teachers who believe in our work is very gratifying to all of us.”
Teachers know that students continue to learn all day and all year long, inside and outside classrooms. Teachers want students to get involved in positive, extra-curricular activities to help them explore diverse interests. Sports, music, drama, arts, crafts and other activities can help students build self-esteem, make good social life choices, learn teamwork and time management, set goals and prioritize tasks and commitments. Students often discover their passions during extra-curricular activities that lead them to a particular college major and career choice.
“Oh my gosh, this news is too wonderful to seem true!!! I don't even know where or how to begin to thank you for this amazing gift. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of those who donate to make this possible, the graciousness of POQ, and OF COURSE you, who worked so hard and showed me from my very first contact with you, that your heart is bigger than the world. That you had so much compassion for wanting to make my daughters' dream come true.” -Scholarship recipient parent
A feeling of success in extra-curriculars can motivate students to work hard to achieve academic success in school. Studies show that students who regularly participate in after-school programs surpass their peers in academic performance. They also exhibit notable improvements in work habits and behavior. Activities look great on college applications. College admissions officers look at what activities students are involved in outside of school as a way to fully understand each student.
“Parents started Pride of Quakertown to make sure all children in our community, regardless of family finances, can participate in after-school activities. QCEA appreciates the efforts of POQ and applauds the parents’ efforts to raise more than $200,000 in just a few years,” said Wieand.
